Sewing for pets is fun and cost effective. These precious pug puppies seem to enjoy showing off on this ottoman, but for the safety of both furniture and pets, pet beds or cushions are a must. Pet beds also help keep fur off your clothes.   A large pet bed can be shared by two small adult dogs or cats or by a group of puppies or kittens.

 A cozy pet bed will help keep both dogs and cats off the furniture. Versatile fleece has become the fabric of choice for pet beds.  A simple, traditional pet bed is relatively easy to make and is do-able for sewers with some experience.

Polyester stuffing or batting makes excellent filling for pet beds. A heavy interfacing is used in the base of the bed to keep out the cold from the floor and to make the bed more stable and durable. has free small and large pet bed patterns.

Practical dog coats are easy to make with simple patterns; Simplicity has a variety of dog coat patterns, including matching coats for dogs and their owners.  In colder weather short haired dogs will benefit from a coat.  Coats can be great for older animals that suffer from joint problems. Dog coats can be made from fleece, corduroy and other warm materials. Hook and loop tape (Velcro) is ideal for fastening pet coats easily and it is easy to attach to fabric. Fleece and corduroy are popular fabrics for dog coats.
