Cut out the wallet pieces

You can also use the included pattern to cut the pieces

Start by cutting out an 8 by 9 inch piece of denim. This will be the outside of the wallet. Also cut two pieces that are 3.75 by 9 inches. Take .75 inches off the bottom of one of those pieces.

Cut out a 7.5 by 9 inch piece out of your lining fabric.

Construct the wallet

Take the outside piece and fold the bottom to the top and press.

Unfold and create a 1/2 inch double fold on the top edge by folding over 1/2 an inch and ironing, then folding over another 1/2 inch and ironing again.

Create a 1/2 inch double fold on the bottom edge as well.

Also create 1/2 inch double folds on the top of the smaller denim pieces.

For the bottom of the smaller pieces I’m going to serge the raw edges.

Fold the serged edges up on the wrong side and press.

Top stitch twice across the top of both of the smaller denim pieces. My stitches are about half an inch apart. These smaller pieces will be the inner pockets of the wallet.

Line up the bigger pocket piece 1 inch down from the top of right side of the larger denim piece. Pin in place and sew across the bottom to attach.

You can press the bottom of the second pocket a little higher up to make the spacing work if necessary. Line up the other pocket piece just below the first. Make sure the bottom doesn’t go past the middle of the large piece and the top isn’t blocking the first pocket piece.

Pin in place and sew across the bottom.

Fold the wallet in half with right sides facing and press. This will mark the center of the wallet and pockets.

Sew along this line from the top to the bottom backstitching at both ends and at the top of the pockets.

I’m also stitching lines on both sides of this middle stitch.

Sew along both sides of the pockets.

Insert an ID or credit card into a pocket. I’ll be sewing another stitch on the side so the pocket is a little smaller and fits the cards well.

Repeat this for the pocket on the other side as well.

I’m using a slightly longer stitch length here.

Insert the lining under the double folds on the wrong side of the wallet. Top stitch twice on the top and bottom either 1/4 inch or 1/2 an inch apart to attach the lining.

Fold the bottom up to the top with right sides facing. Iron flat and sew both sides with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Serge the raw edges and turn the wallet right side out.

fold in half and iron one more time to help create its shape.

All done!
