How to Make a Reusable Produce Bag

Remember how I said I love these stinking sustainability projects? Well I have another one for you.

Single use plastic bags are the most frustrating form of waste to me. I never know what to do once I get handed a bag. Like “thank you, let me just bring this home and throw it away.”

No. No more for me. Mesh bags are an easy way to keep my apples from rolling away and are lightweight so they won’t jack up the price of your food when it is weighed.

Ditch the plastic produce bags at grocery stores. Here’s a super easy way to make reusable bags!

Instructions

Step 1: Cut

Cut a rectangle out of the Hex Mesh that is 32” x 12”. Also cut two pieces of cording that are 30”

Step 2: Clip

Fold the hex mesh in half and clip up the sides.

Step 3: Sew

Sew up both sides of the bag.

Step 4: Clip

Clip the top open edge of the hex mesh over 1” all the way around.

Step 5: Sew

Sew the 1” channel all the way around. For a regular drawstring bag, you would keep an opening on both sides of the bag but that is not necessary for this bag because of the material it is made out of.

Step 6: Insert the draw string

Using the safety pin attached to one end of the cording, thread the cording through one side of the bag and through the other. Tie it off with the other side of that length of cording.

Thread the other piece of cording using the same method but start on the opposite side of the bag. And not your bag is complete.
