Felt is an ideal fabric for making fabric flowers because it doesn’t fray and it’s thick enough to create volume and shape. These felt flowers make great broaches, bouquets, or embellishments for headbands, bags, pillows, wreaths, and much more. You can experiment with different variations, like color, size, and petal shape, to make them your own.

First, I’m going to make templates for 3 sizes of petals. Cut out 1 ½, 1 ¼, and 1 inch squares. (Metric: 3.8, 3, and 2.5 centimeters)
For the largest size, pick a corner and measure 5/8” (1.6 cm) on both sides. Connect the marks.
Cut out a circle of felt that’s about 2” (5 cm) across. Place the largest petals around the circle so that they are evenly spaced. Glue down each one.
To make the center of the flower, take the felt color used for the small petals and cut out a strip that’s about 4” (10 cm) long and ¾” (2 cm) wide.
Cut another strip the same size of the lightest color.
Fold the strips in half and make small snips down the edge.
Using the light colored strip, make a spiral, gluing as you go until it’s about ¾” (2 cm) wide.
