Our Costumes
Myself (Jen), Clara, and Cathy all made our own costumes from scratch. I was Snow White, Cathy was Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service, Clara was Susan from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books, and Greg was behind the camera getting all the footage from our trip!

For Cathy’s Kiki, she used Orange Kona Cotton fabric and Pellon fusible fleece for the messenger bag. She also made her bow out of red matte satin.

Our Experience
It was so cool to see how many people get involved with making their own costumes and props to be a character. Another thing we experienced and had to get use to was being addressed as our characters’ names and not our real names. In the elevator a woman who was dressed up as Ariel from The Little Mermaid shouted to me “Hey Snow!” as she walked on to the elevator with us. It took me a minute to respond back with “Hey Ariel!” It just seemed a little strange at first, but it was fun and exciting to be someone else for a day.
We had a lot of fun and we already are starting to plan our costumes for next year!
Cosplay fabrics typically consist of metallics, satins, tafettas, neoprene, clear vinyl, spandex, cotton, and a lot of times spray paint is involved for props. Of course there’s so many other fabrics you can use! Find more in our apparel fabric section. If you can’t find the exact color you need, you can often use fabric dye to get the right shade.
We interviewed a couple of ladies who not only made their outfits but also the props made out of foam and felt.
