Instructions

Step 1: Cut out the fabric

Tape together and cut out the pattern piece. We have a free pattern available in 2 sizes.

Fold the outer fabric so that the pattern fits on it.

Pin the pattern to the two layers of fabric. Cut them out. If you’re using a lightweight fabric use an iron on stabilizer on the back so it holds its shape.

Repeat for the lining fabric.

Also cut out a 2 x 8 inch piece of the lining fabric for the loop for hanging.

Step 2: Make the loop

Fold the loop piece in half lengthwise and iron. Fold the sides into the center crease and press. Refold and iron one last time.

Sew down the sides of the loop.

Step 3: Sew the outer and lining fabrics

Pin the outer fabric together with right sides facing. Sew around the stocking with a half inch seam allowance. Leave the top open.

Do the same thing for the lining but this time place the loop between the lining pieces about an inch below where the cuff will be folded over.

Angle it up so it will hang better.

Sew the lining pieces together leaving a gap of about 4 inches at the bottom.

Sew back and forth over the loop to make it stronger.

Step 4: Sew together

Turn the outer fabric right side out and put it inside the lining.

Pin the tops together, matching up the seams. Sew all the way around the top.

Pull the lining out and turn the stocking right side out through the hole in the bottom of the lining.

Fold the edges of the opening in and sew the hole shut.

Tuck the lining in the outer fabric. Fold the cuff over and the stocking is ready to hang.
