Instructions

Step 1: Measure & cut the fabric

Pre-wash and iron your fabric. I am going to be making a medium sized cover up, but the measurements can be modified to fit you very easily.

Cut out two pieces of fabric that are 32 x 40”.  Also cut 4 strips that are about 1 x 12”.

Step 2: Sew the edges & straps

Sew the 4 strips lengthwise with right sides together. At the end of the strip, turn the piece so you sew the end closed. Then flip them all right side out with the Dritz loop turner.

Place the rectangles together with right sides facing. Fold the pieces in half on the short side.

Mark one inch from the fold and 13” down. Cut down the 1” mark for the first 10 inches and then slowly make your way to the fold at an angle at the last 3”.

Unfold the pieces and pin them together along the edge that was just cut. Sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

The seam that you just sewed is the crotch of the pants, so fold the pants accordingly. It is easier to sew the rest of the edges if you are looking at the pants this way.

Fold and pin all the edges in two times so you hide the raw edges. Then, take the strips and pin them on the inside of the hem on each side of the hips.

Sew the hem all the way around the pants.

You can finish the inside seam with a serger, zig-zag stitch, fray check, or pinking shears.

Step 3: Make the top (optional)

I made a smocked tube top to go along with these bottoms.
